Potter Month: July in Harry Potter

Potter-Month

For the month of July, we’ve been joining a group of bloggers who are participating in Potter Month. Harry Potter was born on July 31, and as it just so happens, many important important events in the novels take place in July. As the month comes to a close, we thought it would be fun to track down some references and share them in photo form!

Alice owns the book in Italian, and it’s cool to see what the different editions in different languages look like! Lily took photos from the American editions; the photo from The Sorcerer’s Stone is of the new illustrated edition and the photos from The Order of the Phoenix are of the older paperback edition.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Chapter 3: Letters from No One

One day in July, Aunt Petunia took Dudley to London to buy his Smeltings uniform, leaving Harry at Mrs. Figg’s.

GRINGOTT’S BREAK-IN LATEST

Investigations continue into the break-in at Gringotts on 31 July, widely believed to be the work of Dark wizards or witches unknown.

Gringotts goblins today insisted that nothing had been taken. The vault that was searched had in fact been emptied the same day.

“But we’re not telling you what was in there, so keep your noses out if you know what’s good for you,” said a Gringotts spokesgoblin this afternoon.

He looked hopelessly around his room again, and his eye paused on the birthday cards his two best friends had sent him at the end of July.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Chapter 37: The Lost Prophecy

“THE ONE WITH THE POWER TO VANQUISH THE DARK LORD APPROACHES…. BORN TO THOSE WHO HAVE THRICE DEFIED HIM< BORN AS THE SEVENTH MONTH DIES… AND THE DARK LORD WILL MARK HIM AS HIS EQUAL, BUT HE WILL HAVE POWER THE DARK LORD KNOWS NOT… AND EITHER MUST DIE AT THE HAND OF THE OTHER FOR NEITHER CAN LIVE WHILE THE OTHER SURVIVES…. THE ONE WITH THE POWER TO VANQUISH THE DARK LORD WILL BE BORN AS THE SEVENTH MONTH DIES….”

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Chapter 37: The Lost Prophecy

“The odd thing is, Harry,” he said softly, “that it may not have meant you at all. Sybill’s prophecy could have applied to two wizard boys, both born at the end of July that year, both of whom had parents in the Order of the Phoenix, both sets of parents having narrowly escaped Voldemort three times. One, of course, was you. The other was Neville Longbottom.”

We think we’ve captured some of the more important ones, but there are plenty more to be found in the Harry Potter books (Lily used the search tool on Kindle to track them all down). Feel free to join us in our salute to Potter Month! If you share a photo on Twitter, please tag us @TGShowBlog, and if you post on any other social platform, use the tag #PotterMonth so we can find your pics.
